Industry charity The Travel Foundation has teamed up with Abta’s Travelife for Hotels and Accommodation to ensure this year’s Make Holidays Greener campaign is the biggest yet.
The Travel Foundation launched Make Holidays Greener in 2010 as an annual event for operators and agents to raise awareness of sustainable holidays, but this is the first time Travelife has been involved.
More than 100 firms joined in the month-long campaign last summer, cleaning 97 beaches and collecting 600 bags of rubbish.
Travelife and The Travel Foundation want even more operators, agents, hotels and other businesses involved in the Big Holiday Beach Clean 2015.
Travel Foundation chief executive Salli Felton said: “Make Holidays Greener has always been about tourism businesses working together for the protection of the environment and to support communities in destinations. With Travelife on board we’ll be able to reach even more businesses and holidaymakers.”
Travelife head of destinations and sustainability Nikki White said: “It’s a great way for our hotel members to engage with staff, customers and the community.” The campaign comes
as The Travel Foundation is poised to unveil a new sustainability strategy.
Companies can support Make Holidays Greener by organising a beach clean before or during July and share stories on social media using #greenerhols. Go to makeholidaysgreener.org.uk
