Monarch claims European ‘fatigue management’ first

Monarch claims to have become the first European airline to introduce new flight time limitations for crew.

The transition to the European flight, duty time and rest requirements comes almost a year ahead of new rules coming into force in February 2016.

The Civil Aviation Authority expects most major airlines to plan the switch by October for the start of the winter flying schedule.

Monarch has introduced fatigue management training and an overview of the flight time limits for air crew, staff responsible for the preparation and management of air crew rosters and their relevant line managers.

Chief operating officer Nils Christy said: “This is a significant change in requirements and regulatory approach, as the airline is required to actively demonstrate how they manage fatigue.”
