Airports across parts of Cuba have been shut ahead of a hurricane hitting the island.
Tropical Storm Rafael is expected to make landfall in western Cuba as a Category 1 or Category 2 hurricane today.
The Foreign Office issued a travel alert warning of a risk of heavy rain, flash flooding and land slides.
“This could also affect the ongoing power outages,” the updated travel advice said.
“You should monitor local media for updates, and take precautions including conserving water, food and mobile phone charge.”
Cuban authorities announced the closure of the airports of Havana, Varadero, Gerona and Cayo Largo del Sur from midnight (local time) on November 5 until 12 noon (local time) on November 7.
“This is due to the passage of Hurricane Rafael through western Cuba.
“You should contact your airline or tour operator to reschedule your flight. Airlines have been informed.”
Cuba has been affected by blackouts while recovering from another hurricane two weeks ago that killed at least six people in the eastern part of the island.
