The Foreign Office has issued a travel alert over a general strike in Italy planned for November 29.
An eight-hour walkout is being staged by unions in the country in protests against the government’s 2024 budget plans.
An estimated 50,000 workers from most private and public sectors will participate, except railway and medical personnel.
Baggage handlers at airports in Milan, Rome, Bologna and Catania are also expected to take industrial action.
A regional demonstration in Naples is planned by the two unions involved.
A separate 24-hour strike by railway staff is due to take place this weekend (November 23-24).
The Foreign Office updated its travel advice for Italy to say: “A national general strike is planned for 29 November.
“If you are due to travel to Italy on this date, check with your travel provider how your journey may be impacted.”
