Air travellers advised to prepare for ‘unexpected challenges’ in busiest December since Covid

The busiest December for air travel since the pandemic has been predicted by the UK’s aviation regulator as millions are expected to jet off for Christmas.

Almost 11 million passengers, including almost 3.5 million from Heathrow, departed from UK airports last December.

The regulator’s data trends this year suggest airports will be even busier as demand for flights is expected to get back to pre-pandemic levels.

Heathrow expects passenger numbers on Christmas Day alone to rise by 25% over last year.

The regulator has produced a series of short, animated videos that will be running on its social media channels as part of its regular ‘Know Before You Go’ campaign to help passengers.

CAA consumer and markets group director Selina Chanda said: “Flying abroad during the festive season is a tradition for millions across the UK.

“While the aviation industry is dedicated to ensuring smooth journeys, disruption can sometimes occur.

“We strongly encourage passengers to familiarise themselves with their rights before heading to the airport, so they feel confident and well-prepared to address any unexpected challenges.”
