Cross-channel ferry services face major disruption today as a strike shut the port of Calais.

All ferry services to and from Dover are being affected, although DFDS Seaways services to Dunkirk were running as normal.

Passengers due to travel today with P&O Ferries, DFDS and MyFerryLink are being advised to contact their respective company.

MyFerryLink warned that the port of Dover was “severely congested” adding: ”Please do not try to check in.”

The Port of Dover said: “We will continue to monitor the situation closely in liaison with our ferry partners and the Port of Calais in order to resume normal operations as soon as possible.

“Please note that there may be delays to services when the Port of Calais re-opens.”

The industrial action at Calais started at 3.50am this morning, closing the French port.
