Travel Counsellors notches second-best sales day in 30-year history

Travel Counsellors has achieved its second-best sales day in the company’s 30-year history, with Friday, January 17, notching revenue of £6.9 million.

The agency, which described this year’s peaks period as “spectacular”, noted that there have so far been eight days in January which are in the top 25 sales days of all time.

Five of those days are in the top 10, with all eight having sales totals over £5 million and four clocking figures over £6 million.

Jim Eastwood (pictured), global sales director at Travel Counsellors, said: “It’s fantastic to see such strong sales performance at the start of the year and this collective success truly reflects how exceptional everyone in our special community is.”

On each of the eight milestone days in January, an average of 1,700 bookings were secured, according to Travel Counsellors, while 177 agents have achieved total sales of more than £100,000 in the month so far.

In-house booking platform Phenix points to Japan, Argentina and Morocco being among the trending destinations, with year-on-year searches rising by 117%, 74% and 55% respectively.

The top five most-booked destinations and travel types include the US, Spain, cruise holidays, Greece and Dubai. There have also been “many significant bookings” to the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean, the agency said.

Dean McMackin, who launched his business with Travel Counsellors during the pandemic after more than 15 years in the industry, said January has proven to be an “incredible start to the year”.

“I’ve already achieved more than the same time last year, and it just keeps building as I recently experienced my busiest day since starting my business,” he said.

“It’s amazing to see how much demand there is for bespoke, personalised travel experiences.”
