Kuoni offers England’s Bassett a free holiday after World Cup exit

Kuoni is offering a free Caribbean holiday to Laura Bassett, whose own goal knocked England out of the Women’s World Cup 2015 early on Thursday morning.

Bassett deflected the ball into her own net in injury time against Japan, resulting in a 2-1 win for the opposition and ending the Lionesses’ historic World Cup run.

Kuoni managing director, Derek Jones, said: “This morning Kuoni has contacted Laura to offer her a free trip to the Caribbean in recognition both of her efforts and the healing power of a holiday, because we agree with her England coach who said ‘wherever Laura goes, she will be a hero’.

“The whole team has done brilliantly to get this far and what an amazing achievement to get to the semi-final, but Laura has clearly been left feeling completely heartbroken this morning.”

“Holidays are a time when people reflect, wind down and plan for the future so time away could be just what she needs right now. It’s about taking time out, relaxing and then hopefully getting her energy and focus back to returns to the game stronger than ever.”

Kuoni has offered Bassett seven nights in the Caribbean, plus one, including flights, hotel and expenses for a week at a time to suit her.
