Voyages of Discovery gains two programmes

VOYAGES of Discovery has become the general sales agent for two niche cruise companies and has begun offering programmes through specialist agents.

Marine Expeditions has 18 different voyages, visiting the Amazon, Arctic and Antarctic on three ships which carry between 53 and 122 people.

Prices start at £1,630 per person for a 12-day Amazon cruise and the average cost is £3,000.

Meanwhile, Voyages of Discovery is also representing The World Cruise Company of Canada. The company is run by the same people who run Marine Expeditions, entrepreneurs Sam Blyth and DugaldWells.

The World Cruise Company is offering three world cruises on Ocean Explorer I, each lasting around 120 days. Prices for the trips start at £6,850 and the average cost is around £10,000 per person.

Specialist cruise agents Strand Travel and Paul Mundy are among those selling the programmes.

Voyages of Discovery is paying agents 7.5% commission on Marine Expeditions, but said that because of the cost of the packages, agents could earn significantly more than if they were selling package holidays. Commission rates for the world cruises are by negotiation with Voyages of Discovery.

The packages have been put together by Voyages’ special projects manager Dudley Smith, who has been working alongside chairman Roger Allard.
