To mark its first 150 days of service Virgin Trains East Coast has launched the sale of prosecco on board its trains, with Bottega Prosecco Poeti available in 20cl bottles for £6.
The move comes as the rail operator gears up for the busy summer season and celebrates being named as the highest-ranked train operator by the Institute of Customer Service in their latest UK Customer Service Index.
Alison Watson, customer experience director at Virgin Trains East Coast, said: “We’re delighted to be putting the sparkle into the customer experience by adding prosecco to our range of food and drinks on board. We are sure that it will be a summertime hit.”
The UKCSI survey placed Virgin Trains East Coast highest of 13 franchised train operators listed in the transport category. The top-rated organisation was Virgin Atlantic Airways.
Virgin Trains East Coast took over the inter-city east coast franchise in March.
The company is promising faster journey times between London King’s Cross and Leeds of two hours and Edinburgh in four hours with improved catering designed by local chefs with menus changed regularly to include seasonal events.
Longer-term plans include the introduction of 65 new ‘Super Express’ trains from 2018.
