THE future for some business travel agents is uncertain because they are reluctant to charge management fees, warned Seaforths Travel head of strategic planning Alan Schoenherr.
Some agents have started to charge management fees to corporate clients to make up for the shortfall in their traditional earnings from commission paid by airlines.
Schoenherr said:”Out of 40 agents in the Guild of Business Travel Agents, 25% of them do not charge management fees, and out of those, a dozen do not know how to calculate it.
“This is causing concern among agents particularly because many airlines are cutting agency commissions.”
He said the GBTAis considering setting up a training workshop on management fees.
