Carnival UK chairman, David Dingle, has been named as chairman of shipping industry coalition Maritime UK.
He is to take over the helm from Lord Mountevans, who has been chairman since February 2014, on October 1.
Dingle is a director and past president of the UK Chamber of Shipping, and is a board member of the European Community Shipowners Association.
He is also past chairman of the European Cruise Council – now Clia Europe – and sits on the Clia Europe executive committee as vice chairman and chairs its tax committee.
Dingle said: “This is a hugely exciting time for the UK maritime sector, with the launch of the government’s maritime growth study and London International Shipping Week, and I am honoured and thrilled to be taking on the chairmanship of Maritime UK.
“The knowledge, experience and expertise in the UK maritime sector is second-to-none, but more than ever we must be united as an industry to ensure that the UK remains an attractive and competitive destination for maritime businesses.
“Maritime UK is the vehicle by which we as an industry come together on issues of mutual interest, to speak with one voice to government and stakeholders in order to achieve our common objectives.
“I look forward to working with Maritime UK colleagues in pursuit of this.”
