Flight update
Air Malta: operating 44 flights a week from the UK and Ireland this summer. Concentration of flights out of Heathrow (15 a week) and Gatwick (12 a week), with Stansted on-line since May 6 with two flights a week.
Also flies from Manchester (five weekly), Birmingham (three weekly), Glasgow (two weekly), Dublin (four weekly) and Cork (weekly). Return fares from £189.50. Flypass frequent flyer programme newly extended into UK and Irish markets. Air Malta’s fleet comprises five B737-300s, two B737-400s, two B737-200As and two Airbus A320-200s; two more B737-400s being leased for summer peak. The airline is also promoting Malta International Airport as a hub for travel from the UK to the Middle East, North Africa and eastern Mediterranean. Next winter, Stansted-Malta will continue as a weekly service and the Manchester-Malta route will get a third weekly flight.
British Airways/GB Airways: flies daily in summer, five times weekly in winter, from Gatwick North terminal to Malta. In summer 1999, flights are a mixture of morning, afternoon and evening departures, with return fares from £139, with the addition of £24.90 taxes. The BA franchise carrier’s aim is to operate Gatwick-Malta daily year-round; it serves the route with B737-300 or B737-400aircraft.
