Last-minute September holidays surge reported

A surge in last-minute bookings for September holidays is being reported by Thomson and First Choice.

Bookings to the Costa del Sol increased by 20% and while the Costa Brava saw 72% rise in the week from August 31 over the same period last year.

Croatia (pictured) has seen bookings jump by 84% year-on-year while the Tui UK & Ireland operators reported Menorca and Majorca are also proving popular with holidaymakers looking for last-minute breaks.

Cyprus has seen a 43% rise and Jamaica is up by 39% as unpredictable UK weather is expected to continue this month.

The operators also expect a strong winter with Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights to long-haul destinations such as Costa Rica, Mexico and Thailand as well as a new six-week programme to Iceland between January and March 2016.
