THE NEW Enterprise and Lifelong Learning ministry has taken over responsibility for the Scottish Tourist Board following the recent creation of a Scottish Parliament.
The activities of the STB were previously overseen by the Scottish Office.
An STB spokeswoman said there had been some calls for tourism to get its own, dedicated ministry under the new Scottish Parliament. However, the STB itself had always maintained that it wanted to be a part of a larger portfolio.
The minister appointed to take charge of Enterprise and Lifelong Learning is Alasdair Morrison, a Labour MSP who has no previous experience in tourism.
Meanwhile, the STB’s Scottish Convention Bureau has updated its publication Incentive Scotland.
It includes information on planning an incentive trip to Scotland, including accommodation, activities and transport.
Venues listed in the guide as suitable for incentive events include the former royal yacht Britannia and Stirling Castle.
Business travel contributes an estimated £450m to the Scottish economy every year.
