‘Floating resorts’ on the way

CRUISELINES are increasingly offering the type of facilities found at land resorts on their largest new ships, according to Royal Caribbean International.

UK and Ireland sales, marketing and operations director, Pete Williams, said that his company’s new ship Voyager of the Seas would feature a wedding chapel, an ice rink and a climbing wall. At 142,000 tonnes, it will be the largest cruise ship in the world when launched this August. Speaking at a Chartered Institute of Marketing Travel Industry Group meeting in London, Williams said: “Cruise ships are being built more like resorts such as Las Vegas.”
