UNWELCOME visitors in the form of huge reptiles could gatecrash the welcome party at this year’s ABTA Convention in Australia, Backchat has discovered. But that’s enough about agents.
The event is being staged on the beaches of Palm Cove, a 30min drive from Cairns on the Queensland coast. How many of the 2,000 expected delegates return without being crocked is open to question. For those of you who don’t know, Cairns is in the tropics which happen to be one of the favourite hang-outs of the estuarine – or saltwater – crocodile.
And judging by the countless warning signs the crocs are a bit partial to the beaches of Palm Cove.
According to a wildlife expert in the region, a croc was spotted sunning himself on the beach just two weeks ago, no doubt oblivious to the feast he can expect in late November. Meanwhile, a swimming area in the sea will be cordoned off to prevent deadly box jelly fish from joining the party.
