Wizz Air reaches 100m passengers milestone

Wizz Air carried its 100 millionth passenger today, 11 years after operating its first flight between Poland and the UK.

More than 28 million passengers who have used the eastern and central European budget carrier in the past 11 years have flown on one of its UK routes.

The 100 millionth passenger travelled on the Luton to Warsaw route, a milestone marked by the airline giving away free flights to all on board.

Wizz Air is also cutting 20% off all fares on all routes on Discount Club bookings today (Tuesday) and tomorrow.

Chief executive József Váradi said: “We operated our first flight in 2004 between Poland and the UK, and today, 11 years later, we celebrate a total of 100 million passengers carried from over 110 airports across 38 countries.

“This week we are celebrating at all our six Polish airport bases because 40% of our phenomenal growth was made with our Polish customers and their visitors.

“I am proud to work with a team of over 2,400 best-in-class professionals, 650 of which are Polish, in consistently delivering incredibly low fares to the market.”

He added: “Today’s milestone has been achieved through our cost discipline and by passing on savings to our customers in form of low fares and a great service.

“We remain committed to grow passenger traffic in all Polish regions we fly to, and to continuously offer our customers new opportunities to travel, whether on business, leisure or to unite with their families.

“The Wizz travel experience will continue to consist of great low fares and a service proposition that allows adding the comfort features that meet our customer’s travel needs. I look forward to offering more new routes, more flights and more opportunities to our passengers.”
