AVIS has become the first travel company to market its product on new touchscreen information and booking stations being installed at Heathrow.
Fifty of the WAMworld stations will be in place at the airport by next month and 30 others will be installed at Gatwick and Stansted later this year.
They can be used by companies to display information on their products, as well as to take bookings and credit card payments.
“We’ve had two WAMworlds running in Terminal 4 for a couple of months and have found that a huge variety of passengers are using them,” said Frances Dickens, managing director of WAM Interactive which developed the screens.
The Avis site gives users details about the car hire company’s partnerships and its latest promotions. They will also be able to sign up for an Express loyalty card and print out coupons for its latest Red Hot offers.
Avis is not, at present, using the stations to take bookings. “We believe that WAMworlds are an imaginative way of reaching out to the travelling public and telling them what we have to offer,” said Avis UK marketing manager Claire Harrold.
WAM Interactive (UK) is hoping that other UK airports will join their network.
