AIRMaldives has grounded its Gatwick flights after just four months of operations.
The suspension of the non-stop twice weekly service to Male means there is no direct scheduled service to the Maldives islands from the UK. Customers will have to connect in Sri Lanka, India or the Middle East or use charter carriers.
Air Maldives started the Tuesday and Friday services with a newly leased 280-seater Airbus A310 at the end of October under a strategy to expand its international flights.
In the UK, its sales and marketing was carried out by Aviareps and ground handling by Servisair.
Operators which used the airline included Airtours’ Tradewinds, the Globus Group’s Distant Dreams and Thomson direct-sell operator Tropical Places.
The carrier was founded in 1974 by the Maldives government but was recently run as a joint venture with a Malaysian aviation firm.
