ANSETT Australia has increased its five-times-weekly service between Hong Kong and Sydney to a daily operation.
They connect with partner Virgin Atlantic’s flights from Heathrow to Hong Kong, offering an alternative daily service between the UK and Australia.
Five of Ansett’s flights on the route are operated by Boeing 747-400 aircraft, with the Tuesday and Thursday frequencies by B767-300s.
In western Australia, Ansett’s new Broome-Bali service makes it debut on March 29, establishing the coastal town of Broome as the northern gateway to WA.
The operation will initially be weekly on a 70-seat BAe 146-200 aircraft, rising to twice weekly within the first year.
Sales manager Jim Corcoran said: “The new service is a good addition to our round-the-world fares. For example, passengers purchasing the Great Escapade ticket not only have greater access to Australia on Singapore Airlines via the east but can also capitalise on 25 weekly connections through Broome to other parts of the country.”
The airline and the Western Australia Tourism Commission will promote the new service to the UK trade next month with the chance for retailers and tour operator staff to win a two-centre Bali-Broome holiday.
WATC regional manager Vince Laurella said: “With its many natural attractions, Broome and Kimberley are becoming increasingly sought-after destinations for UK tourists, who are beginning to regard the region as Australia’s last frontier.
“Ansett Australia’s new service will be able to bring tourists from Europe directly into Broome via Bali, making this a new and exciting product combination for tour operators and Aussie specialist agencies.”
