Gatwick runway reopens after oil spillage

Gatwick’s runway has reopened after it was shut this morning for 90 minutes because of an oil spillage.

Reports suggest a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747 dumped fuel on the tarmac, causing widespread delays from mid-morning.

A number of flights due to land at Gatwick were diverted, and departures were put back.

The airport tweeted at 12.03pm: “Flights have now recommenced, however some flights have been diverted. We recommend that you contact your airline for the latest info.”
