British woman killed in Koh Samui boat accident

A British woman reportedly died after a tourist boat capsized near the island of Koh Samui in Thailand.

A British man is also believed to be missing after the boat with 32 passengers and four crew “hit a big wave”, Thai police said.

The boat had been travelling from Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park on the neighbouring island of Ko Pha Ngan.

Another Briton has been treated in hospital, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said.

A spokeswoman said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has sadly died following a boat accident near Koh Samui, Thailand.

“Another British national has received treatment in hospital for injuries suffered in the same incident. We remain in contact with local authorities in Thailand for further information.”

The FCO could not confirm whether a British man was also missing. Police said a woman from Hong Kong had also died, and a German woman was also missing, after the boat capsized at 5pm local time yesterday.

A spokesman told the Press Association news agency that the bodies of the two women had been recovered from the sea. Those on board are believed to be a mixture of British, German, Romanian and Chinese citizens.
