Travelscene is promoting Washington DC as an alternative short break to New York because of hotel capacity shortages in the Big Apple.
Commercial manager Paul Stanley said: “Washington was by far the most successful of the four new US destinations introduced last year. Sales are well outstripping the other newcomers of San Francisco, Las Vegas and Chicago.
“We are positioning Washington as a good alternative to New York, where capacity is a real problem, and for clients who want to experience another great American city. The fact that it is relatively close to New York, and visitors can plan a day trip there, is a bonus.”
Stanley said that as the nation’s capital, Washington has a tremendous amount of history with free entry to 13 museums and galleries which make up the Smithsonian Museum.
He added that competitive air fares and room rates were another major draw. “The lead price is £369 for three nights, which compares wellwith many European destinations, quite apart from Washington’s US counterparts.”
Travelscene is planning to package special shopping breaks to the city.
