Perennial favourite Spain has been named by Britons as the best holiday destination in the world.
The survey of 1,000 people voted the country top with 19% of the vote, followed by Italy with 15% and France at 9%
Spain and Greece share the top spot for having the ‘friendliest locals’, both gaining 12% of the vote, followed by Malta with 10%. Portugal was named the third best for its friendly locals with 8%.
Spain was also voted the best destination for a night out, ahead of Greece and France.
The survey revealed Spain as the top destination for beaches, followed by Greece and Portugal’s Algarve.
Italy came top for food ahead of Spain, with France in third place.
On the Beach chief marketing officer, Alistair Daly, said: “Spain really is the big winner in the survey, hitting the top spot in all but one category.
“Spain is set to welcome more holidaymakers than ever before this year but for those looking to experience something different, Greece and the Algarve offer some of the best resorts in Europe.”
