As a shareholder in both First Choice and Thomson, I am amazed, concerned and disgusted by the recent activities of the Thomson directors.
Surely they know enough of history and business to realise that no one stays top of the pile for ever and ever. The incomprehensible TV ads, the unpackaging of late holidays and the recent annual general meeting are just some of the signs that they are losing touch with reality.
If it’s important to stay the biggest why didn’t they bid for First Choice, or even Airtours?
They must realise that meglomania is a disease, and that they are now answerable to shareholders, and what we want are good dividends, consistent with providing proper, good value holidays for the clients. That will not be achieved by the discount war.
