ONyer bike has taken on a whole new meaning for Poole-based Penn Hill Travel owner Dawn Betts. Dawn is dusting down her two-wheeler for training for a five-day trek in the foothills of Mount Everest in aid of charity.
The walk will take 42-year-old Dawn 13,500ft into the Himalayas, and has been organised by the Lupas Trust to raise money for research into a rare skin disease.
Dawn, who will be joined by about 15 other walkers and sleeping in a tent en route, was prompted to take part by a friend who suffers from the condition.
She admits she hasn’t done much training for the October 22-November 2 expedition.
“I dance and go to the gym, but don’t do a lot of walking. I’ve been told cycling is good training,” she said.
Dawn is hoping to raise at least £2,000 for the trust through sponsorship. “I have written to some of the tour operators I work with, but would be grateful to any others who can sponsor me,” she said.
