Summit starts leisure-breaks operation on back of merger

SUMMIT Hotels and Resorts has launched a leisure breaks brochure following the merger of its Summit International and Insignia Resort branded properties early last year.

The programme, called Luxury Leisure Breaks, is the first to be launched by the hotel consortium.

It will be sold through the trade and direct to consumers and features 69 hotels and resorts across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and North America.

Hotel rates are quoted in local currency and many include added extras. One night in Budapest costs about £75 per room for two people sharing including breakfast and a massage, while the Port Marnock Hotel in Dublin costs about £159 per room per night including breakfast, one dinner and a round of golf. None of the prices include travel.

Director of marketing Heather Williams said she hopes the programme will encourage clients to combine the consortium’s city hotels with longer stays in the resort properties.

“We are going from zero, so I don’t want to talk about targets,” she said. “I will be happy to get it up and running in year one.

“We have sent file copies of the programme to agents on our database, but will be happy to work with any retailers who want to book us. We will see how it is received in the first year and then might increase the print run next year.”

Williams said commission varies between hotels, but averages 10%.

“We are keen to stress to agents that these are luxury leisure breaks so they can make money from a booking,” she added. The minimum stay for a city-break booking is two nights.
