VIRGINExpress has saved £60,000 in distribution costs in the last year since it launched bookings on the Internet.
Director of marketing and planning Gus Carbonell said the airline was experiencing 100% growth year-over-year with its on-line bookings.
He revealed last month that 15% of direct bookings were taken through the carrier’sWeb site.
Over the past year 50,000 bookings have been made over the Internet
The on-line booking figures were outlined when the airline unveiled its results for the first quarter of 1999. In the three months to March 31, Virgin Express made a loss of £3.4m compared with a loss of £4m the previous year.
Improved loads, combined with the distribution cost-cutting, helped contribute to the result.
