Whitsunday Island: uninhabited national park with beautiful beach. A permit is required to camp on the island.


Hook Island: small, low-key resort popular with backpackers. Good for snorkelling, scuba diving, fishing and reef trips.


Hamilton Island: the most lively island with extensive facilities, including shops, restaurants and a wide range of accommodation.


Hayman Island: luxury resort, complete with shopping arcade, offering sightseeing trips, scenic flights and whale watching excursions.


Long Island: excellent walking tracks and water sports, with three resorts catering for families, independent travellers and eco-tourists.


Lindeman Island: Club Med resort with golf course, secluded beaches, tennis and bushwalking. Prolific birds and butterflies.


Brampton Island: a national park and wildlife sanctuary with fine, white beaches and a snorkelling trail.


South Molle Island: small, lightly wooded island with a golf course. Good views of the Whitsunday Passage.


Daydream Island: luxurious resort on island of volcanic rock and coral. Facilities include shopping arcade, ‘kids only’ club, tennis, gym and water sports centre.
