It is perhaps a little unfair of Michael East (Travel Weekly February 21) to utilise his Travel Industry Digest as a base to survey views of the UK tourism industry.
The results are hardly surprising as the bulk of the readers of this digest are involved with outbound travel, be they in an operating, retailing or airline capacity.
It is fair to suggest resorts in Britain need to follow the example set by Florida and their Spanish counterparts. It is investment in these areas that our domestic industry has, in the main, failed to address.
However, the vast majority of UK cities have boosted their images and are now more viable as short-break destinations than 10 years ago. Local infrastructure has been significantly improved with Leeds, Newcastle and Manchester showing what can be achieved.
Advice from overseas might be welcome but it is home truths that will always count.
