New initiatives: the hotel has launched a range of activity and relaxation breaks. A three-day Aquila Spa Package including a fitness and nutritional analysis, use of steam room and sauna, massage and beauty treatments costs £98 per person per night including dinner based on a two-night stay.
Restaurant: one of the highlights, boasting a cosy atmosphere with open fire, oak beams, antique furniture and candlelight. Could improve atmosphere with soft music and a smiling waitress. An innovative menu serving delicious French food with a range of fish and meat dishes. Set dinner price from £29 with some extras (£3 for scallops and £2.50 for coffee).
Rooms: not large but extremely comfortable and cosy with tasteful decor and fresh flowers. The Queen’s Suite is the hotel’s largest bedroom so-called because Elizabeth I once stayed there.
Service: very quick to deliver iron and ironing board and other services; check-in and out was swift and efficient.
Nearby attractions: Chichester for festivals, theatre and sailing; Goodwood for horse racing and classic cars; Petworth for National Trust houses and gardens; Arundel for antiques, its castle, museums and walking.
Overall opinion: cosy, good value for money and great location for those interested in exploring the surrounding area.
