VIEWDATA provider X-tant has recorded an 8.1% increase in the number of hours its network was used in January compared to the same period last year.
X-TANT managing director Dave Osborne said the increase may be due to a rise in the number of people booking their holidays early because they are concerned that demand for millennium breaks will soon push up prices and lessen availability.
A total of 1.6m people booked 750,000 holidays in January, up from 690,000 for the same month last year.
Osborne said: “What these figures show is that both tour operators and travel agents have done an excellent job in promoting early bookings.
“It is clear to us that the public is becoming more aware of the types of holiday available and have realised that booking early ensures they get the holiday they want.”
