AVRO has made 10 staff redundant after amalgamating its sales and marketing and administration departments.
The move follows the departure of sales and marketing director Roger Kingshott and administration director Beverley Mayle who were made redundant in February. The seat-only operator said it was part of a cost-cutting initiative to redirect resources into developing its agents’ booking system ORBIT.
Avro managing director Roy Woodward said the latest job losses were a result of the overlapping of responsibility that emerged from the amalgamation of the two departments.
He added: “The old Avro was administratively onerous but now, with the progression of information technology we have seen, we just don’t need the same amount of people anymore. And we don’t need as many customer relations staff and people dealing with flight changes because they just don’t really happen much any more.”
