Factfile: Bullying at work – what to do

WHAT TO DO

If you are being bullied at work USDAW recommends that you:

Try to nip it in the bud by taking immediate action.

To back up your case, keep a diary and record every instance of bullying.

Discuss the matter with a colleague you are sure you can trust – you may find others are being treated in the same way.

If the bully is your immediate boss and you don’t want to confront them directly – and many people understandably want to avoid this – report the matter to their superior.

If the problem persists, contact the firm’s personnel department (if they have one) and follow its grievance procedure.

Trade union members should contact their union for support.
