Sunset moves to meet demand for Canaries

SUNSET Holidays has released a dedicated Canary Islands brochure as the destination continues to provide the bulk of winter sales.

The budget operator said the Spanish islands make up 75% of its sales between November and March and was due a stand along product.

Product director Alan Maclean said:”A dedicated Canaries brochure reflects the island’s massive popularity with Sunset customers.”

The programme is devised principally for budget-priced self-catering and will strengthen the product differentiation between Sunset and Sunworld brands.

The programme, which went on sale last week, features Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

It is targeted at couples and the mainstream family market.”The programme will also underline the brand’s self-catering focus with a smaller presence of hotels and all-inclusive accommodation,” said Maclean.

The operator’s no under-occupancy supplement in self catering – introduced last year as part of a no hidden extras policy – has been extended to the new brochure.

Thousands of free child places are among a range of booking incentives at selected properties which also include full-board for the price of half-board, two weeks for the price of one, the extension of Sunset’s kid clubs and large group discounts for bookings taken before June 30 1999.

Prices lead in at ú149 for seven nights’ self-catering at the Malibu Apartments in Playa de las Americas in Tenerife.

Packages for the millennium New Year period are included in the brochure with prices leading in at ú635 for seven nights at the same hotel in Tenerife.

Birmingham, East Midlands, Luton, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds/Bradford, Teeside and Stansted are all new departure airports for 1999/2000.
