Travel agents must be open with their customers if they intend to charge them service fees, ABTA’s head of legal services Ricardo Nardi has warned.
Nardi told delegates at a Travel Law seminar that there was no legal reason why agents could not introduce service fees, as commission levels were now being squeezed, but he stressed the importance of transparency.
“You can’t go through an entire booking with a customer and then tell them about the service fee. If the consumer knows about everything upfront, there is no problem.”
