BRITISHMediterranean Airways is increasing services to the Middle East this summer after recording a 10% annual rise in passengers to the region.
Heathrow flights to Jordan’s capital Amman rise to daily from six a week on March 29; and Heathrow-Beirut services go to eight a week from daily on April 3. The extra Amman flight leaves on Mondays and the additional Lebanon service on Saturdays.
In the past year, the British Airways franchise carrier has increased passenger numbers by 15% over its network and expects to have carried 160,000 annual customers by the end of the month.
Traffic on British Mediterranean’s four Middle East routes to Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Egypt rose by 10.1%, with Beirut up by 20%.
Chief executive Des Hetherington said the rising demand led to the increased frequencies.
Passenger numbers rose by 47% to its four former Soviet states of Georgia, Armenia, Turkmenistan and Kyrgystan.
The increase in numbers looks set to continue in the new season, as the airline reports forward bookings are already up by 26% on last summer.
