ABTA bosses state that they are ‘broadly in favour of change’ (Travel WeeklyMarch 8) but to whoseadvantage?
Chief executive Ian Reynolds said ‘those who will be paying less are those with lots of branches’. But an independent with one office with a high turnover will be paying more.
How much longer do independent agents have to subsidise the multiples? Why should the multiples be capped? And what is thereason?!
ABTA always seems to be pandering to the big boys. Is it afraid that the multiples would, could, walk away, because if they did ABTA would have a problem in balancing the books. However, if a one-off independent walked away it would not create too much of a financial problem.
My father told me many years ago ‘if you look after the pennies your pounds would look after themselves’. I thinkthat ABTA would be well advised to heed this saying.
Remember ABTA need a 75% vote in favour. Broadly speaking, ABTA is in need of change – but to whoseadvantage?
