JEA sets sights on flotation

DIRECTORS of Jersey European Airways are due to outline their plans for the airline’s flotation within the next month.

The carrier is planning to float on the London Stock Exchange later this year to raise capital for more aircraft to expand its European network.

It is also positioning itself as a major UK airline through its Air France alliance by feeding more regional flights into Paris.

JEA directors are expected to unveil a summer or early autumn date for the flotation which is set to raise more than ú100m (Travel Weekly January 13).

The airline is also discussing further co-operation with a resurgent Air France as the French carrier capitalises on new Paris facilities and increased slots for UK services.

A spokeswoman confirmed the meeting of JEA directors, but would not be drawn on its main topics.

From next month, JEA is to feed flights from Guernsey to Air France’s Paris Charles de Gaulle hub following KLM UK’s withdrawal from the island. Both carriers are also increasing codeshare services in April from other points to Paris, including Glasgow, Edinburgh and Birmingham.

JEA general manager for the Channel Islands Ian Taylor said: “Extending our existing services from Guernsey will overcome the uncertainty caused by KLM UK’s withdrawal, while opening up a range of new options.”

Poor share performances at ABAirlines and British Airways franchise carrier British Regional Airlines since they floated means JEA needs a sound business plan to convince investors it is a good buy.
