Airlines facing ABTA writ after PSC move

ABTAis expected to issue writs against British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Lufthansa over the separation of Passenger Service Charges.

The association is arguing that airlines are breaking International Air Transport Association resolutions which require them to pay commission on all parts of a fare, excluding taxes.

It claims that PSC is not a tax and therefore it should be commissionable.

An ABTAspokesman said writs were currently being prepared against a number of airlines.

A Virgin spokesman said:”If ABTA issues a writ against us, so be it. BA took the lead in this with IATA and the Civil Aviation Authority and we are happy it went through the proper channels. The PSC brings us into line with other European countries.”

Both BA and Lufthansa refused to comment.
