n AVRO launches dedicated agent department
Avro has set up a dedicated groups department for agents at its Wimbledon headquarters. The new section will advise agents on special fare deals, priority airport check-in andservices on Avro’s sister company Monarch Airlines. The groups contact number is 0181-715 1585.
n Northwest hits out at air strike losses
Northwest Airlines blamed $630m costs from September’s 15-day strike for an annual loss of $286m in the year to December 31. The 1997 it made a net profit of $597m.
n Brymon triples gatwick-newquay capacity
Brymon Airways is almost tripling its number of seats on the Gatwick-Newquay route for August 9 and 10. The BritishAirways subsidiary replaces a 50-seater Dash 8 with a Boeing 737aircraft, seating 132 customers, for passengers flying to Cornwall for the sun’s eclipse. Return flights on August 12 and 13 will also use a B737.
