THE YORKSHIRE Tourist Board is holding two conferences examining recruitment and staff relations issues in tourism.
Training adviser Susie Brindley said the conferences were a pilot project aimed at showing tourism managers the impact new legislation may have on their businesses, and how to find and keep well-motivated staff.
Topics due to be covered include how to a market your business to prospective employees; using recruitment agencies; the introduction of the minimum wage; and the impact of the European Union’s Working Time Directive on working hours.
“The tourism industry in this country has traditionally encountered problems in the recruitment and retention of the quality staff it deserves,” said Brindley.
“This can result in a poor service to the visitor and ultimately a loss of revenue.
“We aim through these conferences to give tourism managers the tools to be more effective at recruiting and retaining motivated staff.”
The conferences will be held at the Spa Complex in Scarborough on February 4 and then at The Guildhall in York on February 9.
