New shock in an old charge

WHEN will our airline colleagues learn the meaning of the word “consultation”?

Passenger Service Charge has always existed. The collection of the charge was the responsibility of the airline and included in the fare.

Now it has to be taken out and collected by the travel agent with little or no notice given to allow us to change our systems.

Worse still is the “con trick” on the consumer. Summer ’99 fares were budgeted last year to include all overheads such as PSC so it is already in the fare and now they want it on top as well.

The consumer should surely expect that for at least six months from 1 April the fares should be reduced by a similar amount as the charge.

It is time ABTA, The Guild of Business Travel Agents, SPAAand the Association of Consolidators refused to collect PSC and let BAA and others set up airport collection points.
