TALKS to reopen bilateral airline negotiations on transatlantic routes will resume in London on February 18.
Formal discussions on Heathrow access, US domestic airline ownership and pricing will start if next month’s meeting is successful.
US negotiators walked out of talks last October claiming they had not been given assurances on pricing and route access from UK officials (Travel Weekly October 7 1998).
Both US Airways and Continental Airlines complained to US officials that the slots they are offered at Gatwick are not commercially viable.
British Airways and American Airlines scaled down their alliance intentions after the talks broke down and stepped up their Oneworld operation.
