‘Obscene’ expenses blast at Freudmann

ABTA president Steven Freudmann has been attacked for running up an expenses bill of nearly ú1,000 each week.

Travel Agents’ Council member David Speakman described the amount – about ú50,000 a year – as “obscene”.

“The board must make Steven Freudmann accountable,” said Speakman. “The level of expenses should be far below this level. It is an obscene amount of money.”

Freudmann refused to discuss his expense claims but said the amount was within ABTA limits. “It would be a shame if only the affluent could afford to be president of ABTA,” he said.

ABTA’s total expense bill for 1998 hit ú173,654, up almost ú20,000 on 1997.
