HURRAH for the British Incoming Tour Operators Association and British Tourist Authority (Travel WeeklyFebruary 17).
They are thinking of “a programme to bring more visitors into the regions by encouraging tour operators to stimulate visits outside London”. Not before time! London already complains of too many tourists anyway.
Those who come down to us to stay are amazed that another England exists – relaxed, quiet, safe and cheaper, with lots to see and do – and the natives and service staff speakEnglish! “Why weren’t we told?” they say.
One or two tour operators have realised the potential of the “outside London” market but few have made the effort to find out what’s available or worked out how to sell it overseas.
Perhaps our regional marketing efforts are at last getting through!
