Southampton sees 17% increase in number of passengers using airport

THE NUMBER of passengers passing through Southampton Airport last year increased by 17% as a result of extra capacity for existing flights and new services from Jersey European Airways and British Regional Airlines.

Just over 725,000 passengers used the airport in 1998, putting it on target to reach its 2002 goal of 1m. Managing director Colin Hobbs predicted increased traffic this year would push the airport through the 800,000 customer mark for 1999.
