AMERICANExpress has revealed it sold ú247,000 worth of euro travellers’ cheques to UK customers in the first week of trading.
Marketing director Keith Meyrick said the company had done around 10% more business in euros than it had forecast. However, he stressed that it was still early days.
“Like any new product it will have a slow beginning,” said Meyrick. “People don’t travel to Europe a lot at this time of year, so things will pick up later.”
A Thomas Cook spokeswoman said it was too early to say how well travellers’ cheques in euros were selling.
GDSsystems have started issuing tickets in euros, launched in 11 European countries on January 1.
