Questions & Answers: UAE

We asked British Airways Holidays and Amathus Holidays what were the most frequent queries from clients about the UAE. Here’s what they told us.

Can I get alcoholic drinks in the UAE?

Yes. The consumption of alcohol is permitted by non-Muslims but is only sold in hotel restaurants and bars. It is illegal to drink in the streets and to buy alcohol for a UAE citizen. During Ramadan, consumption of alcohol is not allowed in public during daylight hours.

Do women have to wear long dresses or can they wear western attire?

In public, it is important to dress conservatively and not to wear anything revealing. It is suggested you wear cotton, as man-made fibres can get quite hot. By the pool or on the beach, women may wear shorts, swimsuits or bikinis.

Is it hot? When is the best time to go?

The UAE has a hot and dry climate with very little rainfall. The maximum day-time temperatures range from 24C in January to 48C in July. Best time to visit is October-May.

Does the UAE have beaches or is it all desert?
